Alligators have an "armored" body with a muscular tail and short legs. They are only native to the United States and China, and they are supremely well adapted swimmers. American alligators reside in the freshwater rivers, lakes, and swamps of the southeastern United States, primarily Florida, Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, the southern parts of Georgia.
